Plastic in Our Waterways

Plastic "nurdles" are the plastic "dots" used by manufacturers to create plastic bags and other items.  Here you can see the harm they are doing to San Leandro Oyster Bay near San Leandro, California, and the extraordinary efforts of intelligent people helping to clean them up. 

If you've heard about an oceanic mass of plastic trash the size of Texas, you're at least aware of the plastic pollution problem.  The truth is a little more complicated.  Here is a video with Anna Cummins, co-founder of 5Gyres.org, lending some clarification from one of her ocean voyages.
